PHMB is the active ingredient in the following antibacterial products available from Arch - VANTOCIL™ TG antimicrobial, COSMOCIL™ CQ antimicrobial and REPUTEX™ 20 antimicrobial.
These products have a proven track record, over many years, of use in a diverse range of hygiene products - respectively, disinfectants in the institutional, healthcare and food manufacturing industries, the household products and personal care industries, and the textile industry.
More recently, COSMOCIL CQ antimicrobial has been finding use in human wound care products.
These use patterns for PHMB are supported by an extensive array of technical information, relating to antimicrobial efficacy, product formulation and application.
In brief, PHMB is a fast-acting and broad spectrum antimicrobial, providing activity against a wide range of bacteria (including MRSA, Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., E. coli 0157) and viruses (for example, VANTOCILTG antimicrobial has been independently shown to provide activity against FCoV, feline coronavirus at 0.2% product incorporation).
Arch Chemicals continues to generate application and performance data on an on-going basis to support and extend the use patterns for PHMB. As part of this, recent data has shown that a residual antibacterial effect can be generated when treating bentonite clay (used in cat litter) with PHMB.
