Environment, Health and Safety

Arch Chemicals is deeply committed to excellence in health, safety and the environment. We have adopted the principles of Responsible Care® and embarked on an ambitious initiative to reduce reportable injuries and environmental accidents to zero incidents. We believe that health, safety and environmental protection are an integral part of every product's life cycle - from manufacture, marketing and distribution to use, recycling and disposal.

Our Commitment to the Environment
Our commitment to the environment is embodied not only in our compliance with environmental laws and regulations, but also in our product stewardship programs and our ambitious initiatives to reduce recordable injuries and environmental incidents to zero.

All Arch operations are to be conducted in a manner that protects the health and safety of all people in the communities where we operate. It is Arch policy to:

  • Utilize appropriate principles of pollution prevention to reduce the generation and release of waste
  • Communicate openly and honestly with all regulatory agencies
  • Ensure that all disclosures and compliance records are accurate and complete
  • Notify and cooperate with appropriate authorities if an incident occurs that threatens the health or safety of individuals outside plant boundaries

Each Arch employee is responsible for supporting our commitment to environmental excellence. We require each of our employees to:

  • Find out what environmental requirements apply to their present or new job and how to follow those requirements without deviation
  • Never bypass, disconnect, or disable any monitoring equipment or waste control or treatment equipment
  • Take immediate steps to correct any malfunctioning of waste monitoring, control or treatment equipment
  • Never falsify, destroy or conceal any required records
  • Never dispose of waste unless the employee knows the disposal is in compliance with regulations and Arch environmental standards

Health and Safety
The health and safety of our workers, customers, and community is a top priority at Arch. We strive to reach environmental and safety performance standards beyond those required by law or regulation.

As a member of the American Chemistry Council, Arch is committed to the principles of Responsible Care® and we apply that commitment globally. Further, through our Goal is Zero initiative, we are taking proactive steps at each of our facilities to achieve zero injuries for our employees and contractors and zero incidents within communities. We closely monitor our workplaces to determine if equipment, machinery and facilities meet specified safety standards and to ensure that safety and health hazards are adequately addressed through appropriate work practices and procedures. We also closely monitor employees for potential occupational illnesses and act expeditiously to eliminate or control employee exposure to any new or inadequately addressed safety or health hazards.

In addition, we:

  • Provide employees with proper tools and training
  • Provide and enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment by all employees
  • Provide immediate and appropriate medical attention to employees where needed
  • Do not ask or allow any employee to bypass an established safety practice or procedure
  • Do not ask or allow any employee to disable, tamper with or defeat any safety device on equipment or machinery

Safety is everyone's responsibility. We must all help to create a safe work environment and clearly understand our role in following proper procedures. You should promptly report at-risk behaviors or unsafe conditions to your Safety Officer, your supervisor, the Ethics Officer for your business or the Arch Help-Line. Our goal is "zero" Responsible Care® incidents of any kind.
