We provide chemistry-based and related solutions to selectively destroy and control the growth of harmful microbes.

We are actively engaged in creating long-term growth opportunities through our superior microbiology chemical formulation skills, regulatory and toxicological expertise and market knowledge. For example:

• Arch is a world leader in supplying biocides for use in interior paints, wallboard, ceiling tiles and other building products to deter the growth of mold and mildew, which are cited as the major cause of the Sick Building Syndrome.
  
  
• We are expanding our biocides production capacities worldwide in 2008 to satisfy rapidly growing demand for biocides in health and hygiene applications, building products, marine paints, metalworking fluids and more.  For example, we're building a new biocides plant in China, where we're enjoying strong and growing demand for our zinc Omadine® antidandruff biocide  --  the world's most popular antidandruff agent.  To fight dangerous germs and bacteria, our biocides are also being incorporated into products such as disinfectant wipes, hand soaps, gauze bandages and institutional and commercial cleansers.
  
  
• Arch Personal Care Products is capitalizing on a major consumer trend  --  the desire for natural, organic cosmetics  --  by supplying organic-certified ingredients to personal care and cosmetic companies worldwide. 
  
  
• As the leading global supplier of advanced wood preservatives and treatments, Arch Wood Protection and related subsidiaries are growing sales on the strength of innovative products that have won Green Building awards and Good Housekeeping Seals®. For example, our FrameGuard treated interior wood  --  protected from termites, fungal decay and mold  --  was hailed by the National Association of Home Builders for providing a green building product for use in framing timbers, trusses and other interior wood products.  In 2007, we took a major step towards expanding our wood protection businesses' global reach by acquiring the 51 percent of the former Koppers-Arch Wood Protection joint venture in Australia that we hadn't previously owned.  This business positions us to capitalize on exciting, fast-growth markets in the entire Asia-Pacific region.
  
  
• We are also seeing excellent growth in demand for our water treatment products for treating drinking water and for cleansing fruits and vegetables, poultry, coffee beans and beverage bottles.  For example, we are providing our calcium hypochlorite sanitizers to numerous Coca-Cola bottling plants around the world.  We also continue to build on our position as the second largest global provider of swimming pool and spa sanitizers by offering consumers innovative new products, including automatic dispensing units that provide the proper doses of sanitizers, algae-controlling chemicals and pH balancers to keep pool water clean and in perfect balance.  We offer both chlorine-based and chlorine-free product lines to serve any consumer desire.
