Manufacturing & Engineering
Production Engineer

The production engineer is responsible for the safe, cost-efficient operation of a given chemical manufacturing process. The production engineer must take into account raw materials, energy, labor, utilities, maintenance, production rates, quality control, operating efficiency and many other factors. Safety and loss prevention are of paramount importance in the operation of our plants.

Process Engineer
The primary mission of process engineering is to perform the basic chemical engineering for new capital projects. The process engineer selects types of equipment and materials and participates in reviews of plant detail design, construction, completion, check-out and start-up. In addition, the process engineer designs, installs and checks out instrumentation and controls for new capital projects and provides maintenance engineering services to plants as required.

Maintenance Engineer
The maintenance engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, cost-effective operation of production equipment. This responsibility includes planning and scheduling preventative maintenance, failure analysis and upgrading equipment as appropriate.

Project Engineer
The project engineer is responsible for the design and construction of new capital facilities. Once a project is approved by management, the project engineer develops the mechanical design specifications for each item of equipment and follows through to see that equipment is properly purchased, fabricated, inspected, and delivered. The project engineer oversees design and drafting of drawings and specifications needed in the field for construction. Project engineering oversees and manages all phases of construction activities by contractors, tracking schedules and costs, then checks out all new facilities before they are turned over to manufacturing.

Development Engineer
The development engineer participates in the design and supervision of pilot plants and develops new processes and process units. The development engineer also troubleshoots at regular production units to improve their operations and reduce bottlenecks. The development engineer conceives of new ways to cope with environmental demands and monitors the company’s pollution abatement performance.


Business Staff

Sales Trainee
A sales trainee spends 12 to 18 months learning about Arch Chemicals’ people, products and procedures. Training includes extended assignments in customer support and marketing, as well as exposure to purchasing and technical service. Formal sales training, plant visits and accompanying experienced sales representatives on calls are also part of training. A successful trainee is assigned a territory as an Arch sales representative, responsible for maintaining existing business while identifying target accounts and developing new accounts. Experience and success can lead to larger responsibilities and territories as well as high-level positions.

Marketing Trainee
The marketing trainee is schooled in Arch Chemicals in general and in its individual business segments and products. The marketing trainee is exposed to corporate support functions - such as customer support, distribution, purchasing and financial control - and in sales. Successful completion of training may lead to a position on the staff or in management in sales or marketing.

Programmer Trainee
The programmer trainee receives broad, fast-track exposure to Arch Chemicals’ information technology (IT) organization with assignments in information systems, IT infrastructure, voice and data communication, application systems and technical support. Training is geared toward preparing individuals for Arch’s team-based, customer-focused IT enterprise. Ongoing training is provided so employees keep pace with current demands and changing technologies.

Human Resources Trainee
The human resources trainee is assigned to a plant location so that he or she may become involved and knowledgeable in all aspects of the human resources organization, including wage and salary administration, relocation, recruiting, interviewing, discipline procedures, grievance handling, employee relations, affirmative action, performance appraisal and training.

Entry-Level Accountant
Arch accountants are responsible for maintaining the books of accounts so that the business can report on its profitability and financial position to internal management, shareholders, regulatory agencies and lending institutions. An entry-level accountant is involved in billing customers, paying vendors’ invoices, providing credit information for prospective customers, receiving cash and applying it to customers’ accounts, preparing and analyzing product costs, maintaining fixed-asset records, preparing consolidated financial statements, analyzing financial data and ensuring that internal controls are safeguarding the company’s assets.

Logistics Trainee
The logistics trainee prepares for responsibilities in a department charged with ensuring the safe, reliable and economical transportation of Arch Chemicals’ products and purchased raw materials and with seeing that all shipments comply in full with applicable regulations. The logistics trainee may contribute in the areas of rail fleet management, international transportation, safety and service, barge fleet management, rate negotiations, regulatory compliance and rail equipment acquisition and maintenance. The trainee is given a broad overview with the company while working with employees involved in distribution, customer service and all levels of marketing and business management.

Purchasing Trainee
Trainees for positions as Arch Chemicals purchasing agents require an array of abilities and attributes, including a background in chemistry and/or business, creativity, analytical and presentation skills. Training covers information about raw materials, utilities and fuels, packaging, waste disposal, capital projects, engineering and maintenance. The purchasing trainee is involved in negotiations, and audit control.
