Our Commitment to Sustainability

As the world's leading supplier of biocides, water sanitizers and related products that help make people's lives better, safer and healthier, we at Arch Chemicals develop valuable products that not only benefit our customers but are environmentally friendly and, in many cases, socially beneficial. We are constantly looking for ways to increase the sustainability of our products and processes, and by so doing, to help make our customers profitable and responsible leaders in their own right.

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. The key elements of our sustainable mission are:

• Extracting the highest efficiency from our raw materials, including energy

• Measuring our environmental impact from a Lifecycle perspective, and

• Collaborating with our stakeholders to continuously improve

How We Meet Our Commitment
The methodology we utilize in support of these key elements are:

• Measure and Understand our environmental impact from energy and water use and   generated waste at each of our locations

• Report these measurements as the data becomes available to a variety of entities   through the use of our website

• Improve Continuously at each of our locations by establishing goals and metrics for   measurable improvement

• Expand our sustainability program by engaging our partners up and down the value chain

Sustainability Goals and Measures
In early 2011 we developed three critical goals for reducing the company's carbon footprint, intake of water and generation of solid wastes sent offsite to landfills. These sustainability goals draw upon baseline data gathered during an evaluation of our global manufacturing operations, including their intake of water and electricity and their generation of solid wastes and emissions. The three goals are:

• A commitment to reduce metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions per metric   tons of production by 10-percent from the baseline year of 2010 through 2014.

• Achieve a 10-percent reduction in gallons of water used per metric ton of production   from 2010 through 2014.

• Achieve a 3-percent reduction from 2010 through 2014 in metric tons of waste sent   offsite to landfills per metric ton of production.

Sustainability Investments and Projects
These company-wide sustainability goals are in turn supported by internal improvement goals and action plans at Arch’s global businesses and manufacturing facilities. Achieving these goals will require capital expenditures and related investments, as well as innovative new manufacturing processes and product formulations.
