FrameGuard: Mold Resistant Indoor Wood

FrameGuard® wood is protected with anti-mold fungicides and a borate compound, proven to be effective. The organic fungicides remain close to the surface to provide protection against mold.  Moldicides inhibit the enzymes' ability to break down the wood and consume the sugars and starches mold needs for growth; thus, wood becomes unattractive as a food source. Meanwhile the borate component penetrates into wood providing protection against both decay and insects.

One of the fungicides present in FrameGuard® wood is used elsewhere to prevent fungal growth in paint, adhesives, crayons, ink and forest products.  Another is used to deter fungi in cereals, corn, coffee, peanuts, and rice as well as wood.  The third is used as a moldicide and sanitizer in lotions and household cleaning products.  Borates are EPA-registered pesticides, effective in preventing damage from wood-destroying organisms, but approved for use where human exposure is frequent.  Borates are also commonly used in hand soap, contact lens cleaner, eyewash and cosmetics.

The FrameGuard coating combines these ingredients to form a treatment which offers the best properties of both surface and internal treatments.
