Four Easy Steps to Crystal Clear Water

At HTH® we know that pool owners all want the same thing - clean, clear water.  Our color-coded system makes it easy to locate and use the products you need to get sparkling clean pool water.  Follow our simple    4-step pool care program outlined below to maintain your pool in its best condition throughout the year.  For additional information please download our HTH® 4-Step Pool Care Poster (PDF).

Your pool water should be tested for pH, free available chlorine, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, and stabilizer levels.  Your goal is to have "balanced" water.  And testing the water is a very simple process.  Just use an HTH® Test Kit to measure for pH, free available chlorine, calcium hardness, and total alkalinity.

When using a test kit, you can analyze each sample by comparing colors and/or by counting the number of drops added (follow on-pack instructions).  Be sure to store your test kits in a cool, dark place out of the reach off children.

Non Stabalized Chlorinating Products
HTH® Classic or non-stabalized chlorine sanitizers (yellow) are available in two forms (Granules and Tablets) to meet all swimming pool sanitation needs.  They are also available in different pack sizes:
HTH® 5kg Classic, HTH® 10kg Classic, HTH® 45kg Classic and HTH® 25kg Tablets.

The Granules are available in a dry granular chlorine form and dissolve instantly for fast-cleaning      results.  Granules are optimal for swimming pool use.   The Tablets dissolve slowly (for use in Skimmers) to provide long lasting sanitation for up to 3 days!

Useful Tips
>  Use HTH® Test Kit to test chlorine and pH levels.
>  For best results add granules in the late afternoon or evening. When adding granules always
broadcast at the deepest end of the pool while the water is circulating.

Stabalized Chlorinating Products
HTH® Pace Tablets and the HTH® 4-in-1 Floater are slow-dissolving, long-lasting stabilized chlorine        sanitizers (orange) that kill bacteria, control algae and protect your swimming pool's chlorine from       sunlight degradation.

For convenience and best results, the HTH® Pace Tablets should be placed directly in skimmer baskets only.  Always follow product label instructions for directional use.  Always ensure that the product is handled safely and correctly.  DO NOT USE in automatic chlorinators and DO NOT MIX with any other types of chlorinating compounds.

New HTH® 4-in-1 Monthly Floater
>  HTH® 4-in-1 Floater — Sanitizes, clarifies, prevents algae, and shock treats.
>  Lasts a month.
>  Treats up to 70,000 liters.
>  Twist to open — no cutting required.

Useful Tips
>  Use HTH® Test Kit to test chlorine and pH levels.
>  Shock-treat at least once a week using HTH® SUPER SHOCK IT or HTH® SHOCK IT Fast Action shock
    products.

Shock.  Shock treat.  Shock treatment.  All of these terms mean the addition of chlorine to pool water in larger than normal amounts.  Shock treating your pool is of utmost importance because it protects you and your family from bacteria and organic contaminants.  To give your pool the ultimate cleaning and to help provide for your family's safety and enjoyment, be sure to use an HTH® Shock product.

In addition to shock treating your water when opening and closing your pool, you should also shock treat weekly throughout the pool season to kill bacteria, algae and other unsightly contaminants.  We recommend shocking at the same time and day each week.  The optimum time to shock your pool is sundown because the chlorine can work without fighting the sun's ultraviolet rays.  Shocking after sundown also gives chlorine more time to restore water clarity.

If you use a preventative algaecide on a weekly basis, you shouldn't have any algae problems or encounter stubborn algae.  However, if you do happen to get stubborn algae, you should use an HTH® Algaecide to treat it.  To treat common algae use HTH® AlgaeGuard or HTH® Algae Free (lasts up to 3 months), and use HTH® Algae Eliminate to clear up both green and yellow algae.  As with any pool care product, be sure to follow the directions on the label.
