Specify SillBor® borate pressure-treated wood for areas that are not subject to direct contact with water. It is an ideal building material where borate leaching is unlikely except during the initial period of construction.
Borate-treated wood can be used in exterior installations that are shielded from weather if the wood is protected by the application of a good primer and two coats of exterior grade paint. This wood will remain effective in exterior applications only when the wood is kept well painted.
SillBor borate-treated wood is intended for other interior and weather-shielded applications, and meets building codes for uses such as:
| • Sill plates | • Wall plates | |
| • Trusses | • Ceiling joists | |
| • Wall framing | • Floor beams | |
| • Floor framing | • Door frames |
It is available at two retention levels, the higher level being necessary where Formosan termites (Coptotermes formosanus) are present. SillBor® Ali'i™ wood is produced for applications in Hawaii.
Note: Exterior applications
This wood must be protected from rain in order to retain its preservative qualities. This can be accomplished by application of a good primer and two coats of exterior grade paint. SillBor wood will remain effective in exposed applications only when the wood is kept well painted. If for any reason the wood becomes wet under the paint film, adhesion may be impaired.
